Another Stage Production

I am headed out to have lunch with my children today but wanted to send you this post before I get too busy for the weekend. After lunch my daughter is taking me to an antique fair where there will be lots of DISHES!

For all the moms...Happy Mother's Day!

Now on to the post...
Our coffee / cocktail table is so large that I call it a stage. You will see what I mean. :-)

When I dust the coffee table I take everything off and then rethink the staging. Sometimes I keep the same vignette and sometimes I re-stage it. This is re-staging day.

I was in the mood to brighten up the great room so I brought in some orange/persimmon for a nod to warmer weather. With that done I walked around the house to see what I wanted to use.

I have soooo many accessories that I do not need to shop...unless I see something very special. :-) I like to show how many different looks can be created with some of the same items.

I kept my oversized candlesticks from the previous table production

The pups have been in the parlor all winter so I thought it was time for them to visit in the great room for a bit. I grabbed some preserved boxwood and faux greenery balls. VoilĂ .

I tried to use a large black tray...but it was a no go with this vignette. And I thought of draping a scarf or tablerunner under the collection of objects. But in the end I just went freestyle directly on the wood.

I brought this group of pillows from son's "visiting" room. I just move and change things all over the house.

I flipped on the lights so that you could see the color of the pillows a little better.

This may be too bright for some of you. But you know...I love color!  And look at my rug.

Our black wool oriental has many colors and one that I love for this house is the persimmon color.

In some light it looks peachy pink / coral. I love it.

I normally display the boxwood topiary in a large blue and white planter. I am not sure about using my blue and white pieces in the great room. Maybe one day I will give it a try and see what you all think.

My dusting jobs turn into major productions when I freshen up the table tops. But it's what I like to do. I like to play house!

The sun is out today and the great room has more light. Yay! Normally it is a dark cave, which is great for watching tv, but not for decorating. ha!

The great room is mostly hubby's room. You can probably tell by all of his military history pics on the walls.

Time to sit for a bit and have some ice water.

I am trying to drink more water, plus it is a great excuse to "sit a spell" too.

Until the next time...

  1. I like the touch of persimmon. You deserve to put your feet up! Happy Mother's Day.

  2. Ooh, love the addition of persimmon! The throw has great texture and that adds to the overall layering that makes a room cozy and welcoming. Enjoy your Mother's Day!

  3. BTW, do you know there is a THIRD black and white dog to your set? I have all three and just love them. Keep your eyes peeled for another dog w/his front paws up on a green hassock or pillow. He is taller than the other two.
Our decorating style is very similar. Lots of blue and white. We even have the same Ralph Lauren blue and cream table cloth. Kind of looks like it was stenciled. I cut mine up and made drapes to match the duvet and shams in my bedroom. :) I add bright color w/throw pillows in the living room and family room for the different seasons. I am about to break out my very yellow linen pillow covers for the LR sofa which is white. Then it will be tangerine and coral for summer w/ vignettes of sea shells and glass floats. These colors look beautiful, IMO , w/my navy and cream IKAT wing chairs. I can appreciate all white/cream rooms but I love, LOVE color!
I so look forward to your blog posts. I appreciate all of your hard work and effort it takes to keep your blog going.
OH, and congratulations on your son's upcoming wedding!! Fondly, Monterey Girl

  6. Sheila - I loved your comment "I like to play house!" - which is exactly how I feel when I get the urge to start re-arranging. The "pups" are adorable - quite classic actually! Thank you for the inspiration!

  8. I love your vignette. It's nice to think of your coffee table as "stage". I hope your Mother's Day outing was enjoyable.

  9. The pops of color from the pillows are throw are very nice. The puppies look happy to be front and center.
