Spring Refresh in the Mama Cave

It's that time of the year!
Spring.
Yay!
Going green in the mama cave!

I like to infuse a bit of spring into my house after the long, dark winter. Spring cleaning is on my list...and that always helps me feel better about my house.

But besides cleaning I ask myself what can I do to "refresh" my rooms.

After so many days of being out of the house running around I got busy one morning (while still in my bathrobe) and I began working on my "mama cave." By the way...I do some of my most creative work while in my pjs and robe. ha!

A simple spring arrangement.

I have been stockpiling green in the mama cave for the last few weeks. I gathered various green pillows from around the house to place on the white sofa. (See top photo.)

Pillows are my "go to" for additional color in a room! You can't have too many pillows. (That's my motto and I am sticking to it.)

Clear glass bottles make great inexpensive vases.

Later in the morning I made some simple bottle arrangements. You saw them in a previous post holding tulips. I love these simple little bottles!

I took some random silk stems and placed them in the bottles, then put the bottles on a charger from Hobby Lobby.

Of course fresh flowers would be better, but you all know that I love to play with silks.

My large spring floral arrangement traveled from the dining room table to the mama cave. It does a wonderful job of freshening up the old butler's tray table.

I was not in the market to make new purchases for my spring refresh, though I have seen some things that I would love. ☺☺ For this refresh I shopped the house. That challenges me to be more creative!

One other thing I did was to bring this traditional style green leather ottoman into my room. I have a tv in the armoire and I like a place to rest my legs when watching tv.

A cluster of boxwoods in clay pots helps the mama cave to have some greenery...and to add a contrast to the more formal mahagony and cherry tables.

These silk pillows and throw are really darker green...but the light sort of washed the color. I like to have a throw available even in the spring and summer.

You all know how much I love color...so a spring refresh must include bright colors for me.

I mentioned that I have been running around...well, we were in Lexington one day this week. Hubby needed to be measured for a tux to match son's groomsmen.

As we were entering Lexington I noticed the name of a new store located in a huge new shopping center on Nicholasville Road. Arhaus.

I have never been in an Arhaus so I decided to check them out online. I found a few accessories that I like (below) and also a gorgeous sofa.

My white sofa has quite a bit of age on it...and the fabric has yellowed some. So, my inner voice has been telling me to look at new ones. I found one that I like ☺...(see below.) That inner voice has not said anything out loud to hubby. ha ha.

My old white sofa.
My old white sofa has more of a country or shabby-chic look. I am tired of it. I would like to have something more tailored, more prim and proper. Shopping for a new sofa is a long process...for me.

I love the curvy, tight back on this sofa.

I have learned over the years that a tight back works better for us. Loose pillow back sofas look messy after a while in my house.

I also like the nail head trim and the visible legs with no skirt. I would probably want darker stained legs. Here is the link if you would like to take a look around Arhaus.  Arhaus living room furniture I will probably visit the new store when it opens...as I love to look!

  4. Love your Mama Cave! and love hearing that you do your most creative work while still in your PJ's!!
Me too! Yes, we get going on an idea early in the morning (my best time to think when my brain is rested) I love Arhaus...we have had Arhaus in our area for many years. Love their philosophy of how they make their furniture....Have bought many beautiful items from them. A great home furnishings store...they used to also carry some antique accessories too...

  5. Looks very professional with a hint of fuchsia in both arrangements. You need a rabbit.
One time, it took three years to find the right sofa and ended up with one from a thrift shop. I have short legs and I don't like deep sofa's and squashy cushions.

  6. Oh my goodness. That sofa is gorgeous! Wouldn't a mint julep cup look lovely on the tray with the clear bottles? I sipped one on the porch of Oak Alley years ago and have been hooked ever since. Still loving your green. Thanks for sharing.

  7. You know that your mama cave is probably my favorite room in your house. She looks fabulous with her Spring makeover. The florals add just the right touch of color. The new (maybe?) sofa is beautiful. I know what you mean about loose back cushions...I'm always straightening ours. xoxo

  9. I love your mama cave. I was wondering if that is a ready made slip cover on it? I need to find one for my family room sofa but haven't a clue to where to look. I do not like the ones Target carry. Any input would be so appreciated.

    1. Debbie, that is an old Park place sofa with original covering. I am not aware of any slipcover places. Sometimes upholstery people will make slipcovers. That might be an option for you. Tell us your general locale and someone might comment later.

  10. Love your room! The new sofa on your wish list is gorgeous. That sofa would also really brighten my room from the dark leather pieces in every corner of our family room! Well I guess that goes on my wish list too!
    Have a great week!

  14. I like all your green pillows nestled on the sofa. I can understand if you are ready for a new sofa. The arrangement on the coffee table is beautiful! Those artichoke candles or dishes are really pretty. I have browsed at Arhaus many times, I can't recall if I have bought something there, though! Thanks for sharing at Celebrate Your Story!

  15. Love the touches of spring and the sofa is superb! You're like me, I have to process each sofa I look at, but I also like to see them in person. But that one? I'd have a hard time resisting that one!

  18. Sheila I love the way you have pulled the room together with just shopping your house. The greens certainly are singing in Spring. And the pops of red and pink on your slik flowers make quite a dramatic statement!
