Let's Talk Fashion Today

Summer Mix of Clothing and Accessories
You know, it is that time of the year when I  get into my closet and organize. I have to see what fits, what I like, what needs to go, etc.

I worked in my closet this morning...for the first of many sessions. (I get so hot in there that I do my sessions in short spurts.)

During this morning's session I found a pair of khakis that no longer fit. Yay!  I found a casual black skirt that I had forgotten about. And I re-stacked some hats on the top shelf.

Black Leather Spartina Clutch
Last week I was doing some online browsing and found a sweater set that had been reduced tons. I liked it when it first appeared in the early spring but I did not love it enough to pay the asking price. ha!  I ordered it on sale...and I absolutely love it.

I love pieces that let me mix and match them. I like the ability to go casual or a bit dressy depending on accessories.

Well, one thing led to another while I was in the closet and I began playing with some outfits that I might create with my sweater set. I need to do that because it seems I just need the lead time. ha. My fashion sense seems to vanish when I need to go someplace quickly. My brain blanks on what I can put with what!

Mix and Match pieces for more outfits!

I ask myself...how many outfits can I create with these pieces? I do that with most of my "separates" purchases.

It is possible to update a seasonal wardrobe by purchasing a few key pieces that mix with items you already own.

For this fashion exercise I began with...
a pair of khakis,
a casual black skirt,
a wasabi colored sweater set,
a black and white silk scarf,
a black Spartina clutch,
a couple of strands of Spartina pearls,
a beachy straw hat,
and black strappy sandals.

It just occured to me that I forgot to add my pair of black wedge sandals to the photo layout. ha! Silly me.

Black travel fabric skirt and Sweater Set

The first outfit is the sweater set with a black skirt. It is one of those skirts you can wash and hang to dry...a travel fabric. The silk scarf and pearls dress it up a bit. If I add the hat I am all set to strole around Charleston, Savannah, or Lexington.

The shell is perfect if it is too warm outside for both sweater pieces...I like to have a sweater in the summer for air conditioned restaurants, etc.

I wear pearls for casual and dressy!

I love that this sweater set goes nicely with khakis too...because in the summer I wear khaki shorts, crops, and ankle pants.

Something to wear out to dinner in the summer...at the beach or in KY.

You all know that I love greens...because I use them in my house. I do not wear too many shades of green except for olive green in the fall and citric greens in the spring and summer. This shade of green is called wasabi.

Pick accessories that go with several clothing choices.

My accessories go well with the black skirt or the khakis.

If I were taking this with me for a weekend, I would probably add a nice black tee, as well as a white tee to mix and match. I could tie the cardigan around my shoulders or I could tie the scarf around my shoulders.

Older Talbots scarf & Spartina pearls work just fine with my old straw hat!

My style is fairly traditional...but I do like to have some snazzy colors in my wardrobe as well as my house. I wear soooo much black in the fall and winter that when spring arrives I am ready to break out of the doldrums.

My mother stopped by my house this afternoon and I showed her my new green sweaters. She sort of made a face at my green. ha ha. She is NOT a green person! :-)

Even if you do not like my green...you can use the concept with a sweater set of your favorite color.

Have you started working on your spring wardrobe? It's that time of the year down here in Kentucky. I even noticed some of that southern humidity in the air today. :-)

Until the next time...
