Changes in the Great Room

Hey all, I hope you have been having a good week. And if not...the weekend is here! :-)

Well, I finally made a decision to help bring our great room design together...after three years of living in our house. ha.  I am slow, slow, slow!

Take a look at my latest change...

If you follow me on Instagram (and I hope you are)  you know that I have been looking around for tables for our great room.

You have heard me talk about the fact that I have been living with a mishmash of furniture in this room ever since we moved in. It is a masculine room with hubby's war prints and the television.

I finally took the plunge and made a purchase. And I went all "matchy-matchy."  Yes I know that is not "the style"...but I needed something to bring some calm coherence to my room. I still have "eclectic" on the other side of the room.  :-)

(Cell phone pic taken just after delivery of new tables.)

The largest piece of the group is a cocktail table.

Besides being a pretty face... it has drawers for storage. Yay!  The top of this cocktail table/chest lifts up to become a desktop work surface.

For me...it will become part of my blogging office. I no longer have a home office in this house and I have been blogging on a laptop on the arm of a chair.

The drawers are are large enough to stash my laptop, charging cords, notebooks, etc. Yay! This means that I will have less "stuff" laying on the floor around my chair and elsewhere. This is a good thing!

Moving on to the side tables...they are very functional too. Each table has a hidden power source, a drawer, and an open cubby. (The tables have heavy duty power cords that plug into the wall.)

Drawers let me stash more of my stuff. And I do seem to have lots of stuff.

The open cubby on one of tables gives us a place to sort of hide the router and modem as well as the tangle of cords.

In a world where most folks these days are going for painted, or rustic, furniture we needed to choose tables that would go with elements already in our room. Leather furniture. History prints. Black oriental rug. Traditional accessories.

I can sit in my "blogging" chair and plug into the table's power strip and work away. I used to always have a tangle of cords with a power strip in the floor. It was unsightly...though it is what I worked with since we moved into this house.

The new cocktail table is a huge addition in the room. It is a huge size plus it will offer me huge decorating possibilities.

Shortly after it was delivered I quickly set a table vignette.

I have another place to play.

I grabbed a few accessories from my stash and made a very traditional vignette. I love to mix silver and brass!

I found the pineapple at my nearby Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago,  if you want one. There were two sizes with mine being the smaller one.

.

I was reluctant to have such a large coffee/cocktail table, but I think it will work out. I am guessing you will be seeing lots of coffee/cocktail table vignettes in the future. :-)

So far I am loving the large tabletop. It will be a great place for snacks / hors d'oeuvres as well as a fun place for displaying pretty things. Fun. Fun. Fun.

My pictures are a wee bit crooked because I did this photo shoot with my cell phone. The next time I will use the Cannon and tripod.

I was in a hurry to take pretty pictures and see what my new pieces looked like. Then I decided I wanted to share with you.  :-)

I would like to invite you to visit me on Instagram. Lots of pics and chatting!

  8. I love the table, Sheila. I think it looks great and the top lifts! What a bonus piece for the room...and a power strip? Seriously! Can it get any better than that for a blogger? Your room looks lovely--very classic and traditional. I tend to be more traditional, too. Hope you have a lovely weekend- xo Diana
