Merry Christmas!

The presents are wrapped.
The house is mostly clean.
And the cooking has begun! We are having our family in tonight.
Hubby is doing a large pork tenderloin that he will be roasting and babying as I tend the various vegetables.

Daughter and sil will be spending Christmas night, while son and his fiancĂ©e will come for dinner and presents and drive back to their town due to son's working over Christmas.

Some professions do not have holidays off. The lights stay on and work goes on as usual. We need
folks like my son, who protect us, but it is hard for them in many ways. I always say a prayer that he
ends each day safely.

My parents will be joining us for dinner and it will be fun to have them with us. They are in the process of relocating near us...with the move happening by the first of the year.  Their new house is finished so after the furniture arrives we can begin thinking and planning how to decorate.

I will be taking a few days off from the blog unless there is something I cannot wait to tell you!

I do want to tell each of you how much I appreciate your friendship and support. I embarked on a new house, lifestyle, and location a few years ago and you have been with me along the way. Thank you!

My Kentucky Sweet Potato Casserole

It is almost Christmas which means it is time for me to post my annual Sweet Potato Casserole.

For you who have been with me a while and missed this recipe, this is your time to write it down. (Or copy and paste. I just ask that you give MKL credit if you share it with others. Thanks)

I posted the picture below on Instagram Tuesday night and my daughter chimed in saying she was looking forward to this dish. (She is bringing pies and bourbon balls. Yay!)

I am telling you...this sweet potato dish is a winner! There are many sweet potato casseroles out there...but this one is my easy creation. I only do easy folks. ha!

Post Home Tour, Tour

I want to back track a bit and give you a closer look at some of my Christmas decorations. I guess you could call this a post home tour, tour.

I prepped the parlor / mama cave and dining rooms for my Christmas home tour...but things might have become a blur because I did not have the time or space to give you a closer look at the decorations I used. I zoomed through.

Santa has lots of packages...so the smaller sleigh will be helpful. :-)

A Quick and Easy Christmas Idea

Christmas is almost here...
and I am still playing around the house.
It's just so much fun!

Just a few little tweaks here and there.

I had a spur of the moment impulse to try something.

I do not think you need directions for this idea. :-)

I have seen others fill lanterns with ornaments...but this is my first go around.

I had several red glass ball ornaments that were not being used on the tree, and I wanted to use them. Red is my color this year!

So Many Ornaments!

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas Y'all!

Those of you who have been married with kids for decades years know that you can really accumulate lots of Christmas ornaments.

Over the years we would let our kids chose a few ornaments each year, while  some where gifts. Add to that the ornaments I would pick up during our travels. Oh my...So Many Ornaments!

Our Christmas Tree, 2016

Welcome, and come on in!

I am finally done with our Christmas tree.

It was not a hard job ...but I did it in stages,
with lapses of time between decorating sessions.

Our tree is not a designer tree,
but one I put together bit by bit, step by step.

We used to have a ten foot "monster" tree in our other house. That took quite a while to decorate!

We not only downsized houses, we downsized our Christmas tree.

I have so many ornaments that I have to pick and choose which ones to use. It occurred to me that I might need to rotate my ornaments from year to year...and make a list, or a chart, as I doubt I can remember from year to year.

I don't think this year's tree has a specific style. :-)
I put sprigs of berries, pine, and lots of white burlap bows all over the tree. Then I added glitter sprigs to the top of the tree, and randomly around the tree. I like the sparkle!  All of the sprigs of this and that help to fill in our tree branches.

The last thing I did was to add glass ornaments...and then special family ornaments.

I looked at the tree and it occurred to me that I just did not have any more space for adding more ornaments.

We gave daughter her childhood ornaments a couple of years ago, after she married and had her own tree.

The ice skates ornaments are mine. I used to ice skate... growing up with colder winters. It has been so long now that I don't know if I could still stand on ice skates these days...but maybe. :-)

So many of my ornaments remind me of a special person, place, or time in my life.

The little plastic snowman is an oldie. And his little light still works after nearly ten years. Amazing!

After all is said and done, and the Christmas tree is finally finished, it is so much fun to sit by the glow of the lights on cold evenings leading up to Christmas.

It is nice to get comfortable under a soft throw, with a cup of hot tea, and maybe a bowl of popcorn...and just sit, and look at the tree.

There is magic in the air...
whether you are young or old. :-)

Red Plaid & Black Lantern Tablescape

Hello everyone!
I am back in the kitchen today...
and I have another Christmas tablescape for you.

I have been playing with red plaid since the day after Thanksgiving!

This is certainly the year for plaid...and it seems that red plaid is at the top of the list.

I began this year's Christmas theme a few weeks ago with red velvet pillows, and red plaid ribbon. Then things seemed to just naturally evolve. I am using red, black, and white around the house...including lots of red plaid.

I have lots of black touches...so black is working as a neutral...and it makes it easy to carry out my theme.

You may remember my black lanterns from Halloween...but look how great they are at Christmas on my red plaid tablecloth!  I added white battery powered candles so that they could twinkle after dark.

Instead of cloth napkins I am using cotton tea towels pinched in at the center to make a bow.

I tied a jingle bell onto jute cord, and then tied a bow around the middle of each tea towel. Simple and cute...just what I like.

I purchased a large box of various sized glittered jingle bells and have been using them here and there. And I will tell you, I have glitter everywhere! :-)

I tied red plaid ribbons onto the lanterns for a splash of color.

For a touch of holiday green I scattered faux boxwood balls around the base of the lanterns. Then I added pine cones for some seasonal texture.

My kitchen is a sunny spot most mornings...and it makes for a friendly place to hang out with a cup of coffee, and a great place for pictures.

My black chairs play a supporting role in my overall kitchen theme of red, black, white.

The white plates and serving pieces really "pop" on the red plaid.

Here are a few more shots of my table and lantern centerpiece.

Red plaid is so festive during the Christmas season. Whether it is for entertaining or just for you...red plaid is fun!

Red plaid just makes me want to say
Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!

I may be in red plaid overload...but come Jan 1 I won't see it again until after Thanksgiving 2017. :-)

Are any of you using red plaid this year...or a red, black, & white color theme?

If not...what colors are you using?

Holiday Home Tour, Traditional Christmas Style

Welcome to my home!

This week I am teaming up with twenty other bloggers for a wonderful Holiday Home Tour, hosted by Chloe @Celebrate and Decorate.

Let me show you some of my holiday decorating.

December 4, 2016

Simple Works Too!

How are your holiday decorating plans coming along? If you are like me you do this and that, moving from spot to spot around your house trying to make things look cozy and pretty.

I took apart an elaborate tablescape on my dining room table and needed to put something quick in its place. My dining room is in full view when the front door opens.
