Switching Up Table Tops

Here's the story...

My idea did not work out...

This compote did not begin on the coffee table.

I had a cute Halloween trayscape sitting on the trunk. I worked on it and it looked great. Except that there was a problem.

A big problem....A problem the size of these lanterns! ha ha

I really like this trayscape on the coffee table/trunk, however the lanterns are too tall for watching television. And, I like to lay on the sofa in the evening for tv. I decided that the lanterns had to move. I initially thought I could see around the lanterns just fine. But no!

For now, they are on this pine block front chest. I think they work here.

If Southern flags / history bother you...you may want to slide by this next pic quickly. Hubby collects civil war prints...north and south. :-) They are all over the great room!

This photo shows you my overdose of orange tones. You know me...I love color.

Now, back to the top of the trunk...It needed something. I thought I would try my compote and fill it with (Pier One) mini pumpkin filler.

I added a large faux pumpkin to balance the scale of the arrangement. But the vignette needed something more.

I tried my oval silver tray...but I decided it looked a bit formal for the great room and this oversized compote.

I settled on this rectangular Mexican silver tray that my parents gave me one Christmas. The large scale and rustic style work well with the aluminum compote.

Another design problem solved!
Sometimes practicality wins over design. :-) I have to be able to see my British shows on Netflix!

The lanterns will be ok where they were moved...because this girl needs to see the tv screen in the evenings.

(Right now I am hooked on Netflix...George Gently. A British detective show set in the 1960s.)
