In An Autumn Frame of Mind

Round and round and round they go!

I switch and move my fall decorating accessories here and there. I start one place with an accessory and  I get an idea while I am walking through the house...then, swoosh...things are switched.  :-)

Such is the case with my lanterns...they have been dancing around the house. Keep your eyes open because you don't know where they will turn up next.

I am like a kid around Halloween...playing with décor. I know that some folks don't do much for Halloween, and I don't go crazy.

We don't have anything in our yard...and living on our hill does not let folks see my front door very well.

Since we installed the railing around the porch my front door is less visible. I usually have a few pots of mums and a wreath of some sort...just to be seasonable.

These mums have had a haircut!

I picked up a great black cat last year...and I love his silhouette through the glass door.

He is cute on the front side too...!

Come on in and take a peek at the parlor. I just added a couple of things for the season. It was time to take away the early fall sunflowers and do something fallish.

My lanterns are filled with soft felt pumpkin garlands. Two blackbirds and some faux pumpkins round out the vignette. After Halloween I will return the black birds to their storage tub and leave the fall things out until I begin decorating for Christmas.

What do you all do for Halloween?
Just a little bit...or do you go big? Stuff in the yard, and dozens of pumpkins or just a few bits and pieces in the house?

I have to tell you...the seasons are being so rushed these days. I have been seeing Christmas decorations everywhere. Yikes!

I hope you are able to take the fall season slowly enough to enjoy the pretty colors of the leaves, and their crunching under foot when they eventually dry on the ground.

I hope you have a place where you can sit outside and enjoy the fresh autumn air...with a cup of tea, coffee, cider, or hot chocolate. Perhaps you can have a sweet puppy or a good book accompany you.

I have been busy in the house today cleaning the master closet. I am sorting sweaters, blouses, and tops. I am color coding my closet rods... blouses and knit tops. This is a long over due job that I have been meaning to do.

I worked on sweaters today also. I refolded every sweater, and re-stacked them on shelves by style, and then by color. My cardigan twin sets are all together and my pullover cables are together in another stack...and so on.

Organizing my closet is work...but it actually makes me feel better to have everything in order, and then I can go outside and enjoy the pretty fall weather, and the season. :-)

I know that most feel the need to clean and refresh in the spring, but for some reason fall makes me want to nest and get the house ready for the holidays and cold months.

We will have grown kids, a son-in-law, and a new future daughter-in-law here for the holidays and I am already thinking about what I need to do for my fall cleaning in the bedrooms. Starting my list!

I have to start this far ahead in order to have the house ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Thanks for stopping by to chat a little today, and ...looking forward to our next time together!  I am so glad  that you are one of my blog friends.

Here are some recent fall posts...in case you missed them.

Hello, I'm Sheila and my house is a giant art project! I enjoy creating an environment where my family can feel safe, secure, and loved. We are empty nesters learning to slow down and enjoy life.

  1. Sheila, I love how pretty your porch looks. The lanterns on the table are so great to decorate any season. Oh I am like you...let us enjoy each season and holiday with out some one putting up a tree while the pumpkins are on the steps. LOL Why rush our lives. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  2. I like what you have done. I don't go crazy anymore for Halloween - although I did when the kids were little. I am lax this year and haven't done much of anything really. With the house on the market I don't want it to feel cluttered or 'overdone' for the season.

I love your CAT! He is too cute! Your pumpkins in the lanterns look nice and so does everything else for that matter. xo Diana

  3. Love the black kitteh on your front door! I don't decorate much any more...would if I had good storage space instead of having to dismantle a shed to find anything.

  4. Your fall touches are lovely. I like to do my organizing in the fall, too. I guess it's the teacher in me, remembering getting my room ready each school year.
