Another Use for Glass Hurricanes

This post was featured on The Dedicated House.
Thank you Katheryn.

You all know me well by now!  You know that I love to re-purpose home d├ęcor items. I may purchase something for one use, and then I have an idea. It's always those ideas that spur me to create something new. Frankly, some ideas work out better than others. :-)

I purchased these tall glass hurricanes from Pier One prior to daughter's wedding. It is amazing that I have not had a chip or such...but I packed them away very well.

Hubby went to the garage and dug the box out of a corner of the garage. It was on the bottom of the stack...ha ha ha.

Like I said...these are hurricanes for fat candles.  But, I decided to try some pumpkin filler for a different look. I had to dig through my tub of bits and pieces and then eventually found enough filler and leaves to "fill" the hurricanes. I put them in a line down the table...but it just did not look right.

I regrouped the hurricanes into a square arrangement on the table. Still not the look I wanted.

I grabbed a large mirrored tray and placed all of the hurricanes on it. Hmmm. Better.  I added some fall leaves...trying to make them look as if they just causally floated onto the tray. :-)

The reveal! Finally!

It was a lot of work for a simple table arrangement, but sometimes that is the way it is when you are being creative.

Don't let your creativity be stopped just because a project does not work the first time...keep trying until it speaks to you.

Hello, I'm Sheila and my house is a giant art project! I enjoy creating an environment where my family can feel safe, secure, and loved. We are empty nesters learning to slow down and enjoy life.

  1. What a cute idea. Sometimes these simple things that come together make the best impact in small, sweet ways. Love it, Sheila! xo Diana

  2. Very pretty! I can attest that styling a table or anything else takes patience and objectivity.

    1. You are so right Brenda. Practice and patience are required. :-)

  3. That looks lovely! I quite like the tray they are sitting in as well. -Jenn

  4. I giggled when I read "the box on the bottom"! Isn't that the way it always is??!! I love how you've used your fall bits and bobs. Creativity is an adventure ... a beautiful one.

    1. Yes, an adventure. A fun one most of the time. ha ha ha

  5. Yeah me too... it made me smile like Snap, lol..
Loving your tray, such gorgeous centerpiece for any table setting !
    Thanks for sharing.

  6. I love it! Looks so pretty and the addition of the gold pumpkins was a great touch. Your persistence paid off, Shelia!

  7. Cute idea! Love to see the way you re-purpose decor items.

    1. Donna, you know I do some crazy things sometimes. ha

  8. Great job, I love how you didn't let it stop you until you found what works. Looks beautiful!
Thanks so much for joining the DI & DI Link party.

  9. Love your creative uses for the hurricanes!....Beautiful Sheila!

  10. Sheila,
Experimenting with possibilities is part of the fun of creating arrangements. I spy those adorable 3 gold pumpkins. Thanks for sharing your talent with Monday Social.

  11. Great idea! I am going to try this with a vase I have. Thanks for the suggestion.

  12. Those look fantastic! I'm going to be using some glass cylinders in a similar way for a tablescape I'm working on!

  13. Beautiful, as always Sheila! Thank you for sharing your wonderful post at #OverTheMoon. I look forward to what you will share next week! Do something special. Give yourself a standing ovation today! We hope you’ll come back again next Sunday when we open our doors at 6:00 PM EST. “Like" someone in person today!

  14. Patience is indeed a virtue when tablescaping. Sometimes I have to let the table and the idea marinate for awhile to see how it feels. This is very stylish and reminds me of something I seen in Pier 1. Thank you for sharing with us this week at Celebrate Your Story, have a great week.

  15. Sheila, your hurricanes are beautiful! Your home is stunning! Thank you for sharing! You are one of the fan favorites at the Sunday Showcase from the Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House.
