Three Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Plate

I have three little velvet pumpkins.

Aren't they cute.

They add just the simplest touch of fall to a room.

Last year I mixed blue and orange and I liked the look. The colors really pop against each other.

You all know that it does not take much for me to pull out my camera and play with light. Well, the late afternoon sun was streaming through the front windows and I just had to see what I could do.

I love the drama that light creates when coming from the side of a picture. Dark pictures with streams of light let me pretend I am a classical painter.

You should try it sometime with your camera. You must use early morning light or late afternoon light in order to get a light and dark sides of an object.

The light and dark contrasts on the plate of pumpkins reminds me of the low autumn light that we will too soon be having. The long light of October will be here before we know it. (Noooo!)

For now we can still enjoy light a little longer. Whew! Those evenings where it is dark by six o'clock are a little much for me.  But that is part of fall. It is a transition season. The light already has a different tint in south central Kentucky. It is a fall color...not the full yellow of summer.

These three little pumpkins on a plate will find their way to various table settings and fall vignettes in the next few weeks.

My pumpkins would also look just fine if I left them sitting on this plate. Fall decorating can be lovely when done simply. It is not necessary to go overboard.

I love to decorate for fall, Halloween, and thanksgiving. It's such fun!

I know that I will be mixing more blue in with my fall arrangements. There is just something about using opposites from the color wheel that attract me. The contrasts of bold colors appeal to my eye.

These little pumpkins were apparently the last three at my nearest HL. I searched the store and asked clerks if they had any more. No more! They sold quickly. I was too slow, too late. ha. I really wanted six little pumpkins to put on plates for a table setting.

Oh well, at least I have three little pumpkins sitting on my plate. :-)
