A Pumpkin on a Pedestal

I saw an idea...and I thought I would try it.

You all know I am all about trying out new decorating ideas.

And this one is so simple.

I wish I had thought of this idea before.

It is a way to elevate, pun intended, the simple field pumpkin to a level of prominence in your fall decorating.

I took a large bowl.
I filled it with plastic grocery bags to hold the pumpkin to the height I wanted.
Then I put some florist moss over the plastic bags for a finishing touch and to cover the bags. And finally I put a pumpkin on top. Ta Da!

I also added a stack of books to add a little more height, as my candlestick lamps are tall.

I have seen, and do myself, baskets full of lots of pumpkins, gourds, nuts, etc. But I really like this idea of a large pumpkin sitting on a bowl.  Match the size of your pumpkin, fresh or faux, to the size of a bowl of your style.

And here is my sweet pumpkin on a pedestal at lamplight.

What do you think?

I believe you could do this using small pumpkins and small bowls as well as the large version I made. It's just so much fun to play!

I would love to hear from you all to see if you are going to try making a pumpkin on a pedestal for your house. It's easy peasy!

Hello, I'm Sheila and my house is a giant art project! I enjoy creating an environment where my family can feel safe, secure, and loved. We are empty nesters learning to slow down and enjoy life.

  1. Hi Sheila! Well, honey, you've got it going on! I love this look and that bowl is gorgeous your pumpkin is resting in! Hope you're doing well.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

    1. Thanks so much...and I am glad you all are back safely from your travels!

  2. What a beautiful Fall vignette! I love the orange glitter pumpkin with the gold pedestal bowl.I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!!!

  3. Sheila, I love the bowl. That is a wonderful decorating idea. Looks so nice with the lamps. The little fox is adorable. I think I'll try that pumpkin in a bowl on the table. Too cute. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Wish I had done it sooner! I think you will like it.

  4. What a clever idea! Love the texture of the pumpkin and the ribbing on the bowl...nice together...

  5. Great idea Sheila! And I'm enjoying your photos on IG too! Happy Fall!

  6. I like how you increased the height. There are all sorts of tricks for filling containers, aren't there? -Jenn

    1. Once I filled flower pots with empty water bottles so I did not have to use so much dirt. Funny thing, they floated to the top when I watered my plants. Ha ha

  7. Beautiful placing pumpkins in great pedestals and bowls too....Yours looks so glamorous!

  8. Absolutely lovely! I just started decorating for fall this week, so I'll definitely keep this idea in mind :)

  12. Sheila,
One of my favorite go-to ways of decorating with pumpkins is to place a large pumpkin on a bed of crazy wild vines on a cake plate. As always your home looks so inviting and beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with everyone at Monday Social.

  13. That is beautiful and I am in love with Mr. Fox!!!! I do what Judith described, only I use a lidless tureen for the base, so I think that could be described as the best of both worlds ;^)

  14. This one little thing makes a big difference!

  15. SO cute! :)
