Girls Day at My House

I have a great bunch of girlfriends!

We have been getting together once a month for years and years and have missed only a few months in all of this time.

We have had various activities over the years, but in the last several months we started "game day."

The hostess is charged with providing a game table, games, and healthy snacks!

Since I live farther away from everyone else, my friends have to drive about an hour to get here. They were driving during lunch, so I decided to offer a light lunch along with healthy food....and some unhealthy stuff. What can I say...I am a rebel.

I set up a buffet on the kitchen table...

My menu included small pimento cheese sandwiches on thin slices of French bread as well as honey ham and baby Swiss cheese on small dinner rolls.

For beverages I served home brewed spice / orange tea along with an urn of lemon and lime water.

The healthy part of the menu included cherry tomatoes and lots of fruit for healthy snacking!

This is an old bowl from the Southern Living collection that was offered about seven years ago.

As for the unhealthy part of the menu I had "two bite" cupcakes from the grocery store bakery as well as hubby's brownies. He makes the best brownies and is always on call when I need a batch. My friends love them!

I threw in some candy corn for color. I usually buy one bag every fall. Bad Sheila. Bad. Bad. Bad. :-)

Always put candy in a pretty bowl!

My centerpiece consisted of an ironstone tureen and a couple of crackle finish candlesticks. The berry rings add some color and interest. Just a touch of fall for the table.

We gathered around the dining room table for our lunch and catching up time before beginning game time.

Our fellowship time is so much fun. We laugh and giggle, and just act silly. It's the perfect counterpart to the stresses of "life."

We digress from the games and talk about family, travel, health, etc during the afternoon too. We keep up with each other through our simple "game day" get togethers. These ladies are my sisters. Love it.

I added a couple of touches of fall around the house before my friends arrived.

One of the funniest things that day involved the brownies.

You see, I cut the brownies out of the pan (leaving the crust) and put them on a pretty Fiesta platter. I left the edges in the pan on the kitchen counter.

My friends discovered that pan and proceeded to eat the crusty edges and scraps instead of the soft brownies on the pretty plate. Love these girls! I also love that they feel at home chez moi.

Our souls and bodies were fed!
Chocolate can cure about anything...
and strengthen friendships.
Love it.
