This Time Last Year

I know that it is always best to look ahead, but for once I thought I would look back, back to last August.

I was looking through some of my photos from this time last year and thought I would share with you. This will be a refresher story for some of you.

I have so many new readers (for which I am very thankful)  that I thought it would be a good idea to include the pics in a recap. Plus, I look back at my older photos as a way to re-evaluate what I have done in the house...and what needs to be done.

The downsizing process, along with re-purposing things, seems to go on forever! Of course...it could just be me. :-)

This time last year I was about to host my parents 65th anniversary party. I had been fixing up this and that so that the house would look nice. (They are about to celebrate their 66th in a few days.)

My mums were on a timeline and I was hoping that they would bloom by August 28th! (They did.)

I fixed a couple of arrangements with some silk stems that I had in my stash.

I worked all summer misting and watering my ferns so that they would be pretty for the party.

The largest part of pre-party planning, besides the food, was recovering six chairs. All of the chairs were close to 20 years old...and needing to be freshened up some. Well, really they were overdue. :-)

I was wanting a bit of a RL look in the great room with the over sized paisley fabric above.

And I was going for "traditional with a twist" look on the two chairs below.

I have two matching wing chairs that flank the entry to the parlor...that I covered in a very traditional sort of damask design on white cotton. I wanted all white to go with my older white sofa.

With having all white furniture in the parlor I can switch out pillows and accessories so much easier than before. Since this is a room that sees light duty the white works just fine.

I am still happy about my selections...but I continue to mix and match pillows and accessories around the house to keep things fresh.

While my chairs are old...they are really well built. It is hard to decide between purchasing new and recovering old...but in the case of these chairs, recovering was a good decision.

Now... I  need to get busy thinking about what I want to do for fall 2016. I am procrastinating.

I like to reuse my accessories in new ways. So, stay tuned to see what I come up with next. :-)
