Join me in the Parlor Today

It has been a while since we have visited in the parlor.
In fact...I have not fluffed the parlor all summer.

The other day I cleaned off the tables and fluffed the pillows to freshen up the room that serves as my quiet space.
Guys don't hang out in "my" room!
They could...but they prefer the masculine great room for tv watching. ๐Ÿ˜Š

A few days ago I created a sunflower bouquet and put it in a large ginger jar. It was sitting in the dining room until I decided to make a new coffee table vignette.

My sweet old coffee table was our  first "nice" piece of furniture we bought back in the mid seventies. (Ethan Allen cherry, if you remember those days.)

I could have a new coffee table. In fact I have looked at them. But I have a sentimental attachment to this old colonial piece.

You know how it is with stuff that has been with you forever. It held our advent candles at the Georgian. It was the center of Christmas Eve in our living room. Lots of life has been lived around this old table. It has nicks and scrapes...but that is fine.

I just keep putting new tablescapes on my coffee table to freshen things up a bit. This time I brought in my sunflower arrangement, and then built around it.

I included the jar's lid as part of the tablescape. It is large and has pretty designs on it.

I began with the jar on the left side of the table, but had to move it because it blocked the light. You need light for photography!

The sun was in and out during the photo some pics are brighter than others. That makes the flowers extra happy.

With the flower arrangement on the right I used three items for the left side of the table. Three is the magic number when creating a group.

I am using my gold pillows on the sofa still. I just like the happy color.

And with the sunflowers in the room...this will be my happy space as well as my quiet place.

I am not ready to go for my fall decorating just yet. My bold sunflowers will bridge the gap between summer and fall for me.

You all know how much I love blue and white...and I know that many of you all share my love of chinoiserie.

The view from the entry hall... lets you step back for a look.

My color scheme in the parlor right now is gold on gold on gold. ha!

One of the pups is keeping an eye on the new coffee table vignette. They pop up here and there around the house! :-)

I want to thank you for stopping by to visit me in the parlor today. It is a small room but packed with personality...and lots of furniture from the big house. ha!

Hello, I'm Sheila and my house is a giant art project! I enjoy creating an environment where my family can feel safe, secure, and loved. We are empty nesters learning to slow down and enjoy life.

  1. Every time I see your oh so pretty blue and white, I sure wish I had not ever let go of mine!

  2. I love your coffee table and the vignette. I have a very good friend who has that exact same coffee table, and probably bought it at the same time. Enjoy your Sunday, Sheila!

  3. What a pretty room. I had to smile at the coffee table. In 1974 we bought the very same one at the Ethan Allen in King of Prussia PA. It has been a side table and a coffee table and been toted all over the world. Right now it's in the basement awaiting a little refreshing and tightening of the hinges before making an appearance once again.

  4. What a lovely room, and yes I do remember the Ethan Allen cherry furniture! I like the two mirrors over the sofa-different, yet it works. It's still so hot here in Phoenix that it's hard to even think about fall!!!! Happy Sunday.

    1. Mary, I got the idea for hanging the double mirrors from a magazine. I already had the mirrors and needed to find a way to use them. Ha! I took a chance with this idea, and it works for me until I have another idea. ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks for visiting.

  5. Sheila... your photos are spectacular. Love your parlor!!

    1. Thanks Katie. Glad you stopped by to visit. I'm still practicing my photo skills. Ha! My parlor serves as a reading room, music room, and tv room for "my" shows. I can stretch out on that comfortable sofa and just relax.

  6. Hi Sheila! Oh, I do love your pretty table arrangement and the blues and whites! You always do such a beautiful job and I love those two huge mirrors behind your sofa!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  7. You know how much I love your lady parlor! Your Ethan Allen coffee table is perfect for that room. Back in the day, Ethan Allen would give you a catalog of all their furniture. It was better than the Sears Christmas catalog! As a young homemaker, I would put together rooms which unfortunately never happened.

  8. I love blue with gold. This is a pretty vignette and I love the one side laid down- very stylish! I too like using sunflowers at this time of year. Good to fluff once in a while!

  9. Beautiful Sheila....So love the sunflowers with the blue and white. Such a most gorgeous room to relax and enjoy those special moments of the day!

  10. Love love love a room of one's own. Your parlour is so very pretty!

  11. I have that same coffee table and your sunflower in the blue and white ginger jar inspired me!

  12. Absolutely beautiful, delightful space! The vignette is lovely, ...can't go wrong with blue and white, can you? :) ~Rhonda

  13. Sheila, your vignette is beautiful! I love sunflowers as a transitional bouquet from late summer to early fall. It looks amazing with your blue and white!

  14. Beautiful, Sheila. Those sunflowers just POP! Thanks for sharing with #overthemoon

  15. Beautiful Parlor. The vignette is lovely with sunflowers. Loving all of your blue and white. Love that you are sharing at DI&DI.

  16. Everything looks so pretty! :)

Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!

  17. Ethan Allan, I haven't heard anyone else refer to this company in years. That's where we got most of our furniture from when we built our home 36 years ago. The only pieces that we still have are the formal dining room table/chairs and the china cabinet. They don't make them like that anymore! Thanks for the vignette idea, my sunflowers have been sitting out for days and I didn't know what to do with them. Thanks also for sharing your links with us at Celebrate Your Story.

  18. Enjoyed the parlor visit, Sheila! I love blue and white - used to have a lot of it in my old apartment. I'd like to bring it back, someday! I love the pop of the yellow sunflowers with the blue and white. It's such a great color combination. Thanks for sharing at Best of the Weekend!

  19. Sheila, your parlor looks so warm and inviting! The sunflowers are so beautiful. How lovely that your coffee table holds so many wonderful memories for you. :)
