This and That

Thank you to The Charm of Home blog for featuring this post.

I tinkered about the house a little bit today and photographed a few tidbits to show you.

First of all here is the dining table where I tweaked the centerpiece. Before, I had the three ginger jars lined up like soldiers. Now, I have an asymmetrical sort of look.

Another view. I placed the jars in a triangle and then put greenery balls and candlesticks on the ends.

A view from behind, with the "mama cave" ahead.

And lastly a straight on view! I just love to tinker and make centerpieces.

Besides playing with a centerpiece, I also remade a flower arrangement today. I have a piece of Italian pottery that I move here and there. It was needing a fresh arrangement. I went to my stash of silks and decided to create something with ivy and twigs.

I have a piece of florists foam in the pot, which holds the ivy sprigs nicely. Then I stuck the sticks into the middle to give the arrangement some height.

The scrolled handles on each side are my favorite part of this little pot.

Things are nice and green around the house...but we have some tasks to accomplish soon.

We have to pull out two nice river birch trees because Sheila wanted them close to the house...and since that time Sheila has been told by more than one person that the trees' roots could cause problems to the basement wall. Boohoo. We have a guy coming to pull them out and replace them with small arborvitae.

I have a large bush of knockout roses on the front of the house. The blooms are beautiful...but something has been nibbling on the leaves. We sprayed some kind of rose spray, and now have a new spray recommended by our landscape guy. Fingers crossed I can stop the insect problem very soon.

I have more things on my calendar this week...and it looks to be a busy one too. A follow up mammogram and ultrasound are scheduled along with getting new glasses. I got the news last week that my cataracts are progressing along nicely...whatever that means. ha! I had an aunt that once told me that after forty it is patch, patch, patch. I am beginning to believe it.

I hope to have more creative decorating ideas for you the next time. This past week just did not allow for much creativity. ha.

And my board on Parties and Entertaining has lots of decorating ideas and menu ideas  too. If you are planning a graduation party or just a gathering for a group of friends I think you will see some great inspiration.

The Derby is coming this weekend. It is quite the social affair in the state whether one goes to the Derby or parties at home with friends.

Have a great week...and I will catch up with you all in a couple of days!

Hello, I'm Sheila and my house is a giant art project! I enjoy creating an environment where my family can feel safe, secure, and loved. We are empty nesters learning to slow down and enjoy life.

  1. Sheila- your ginger jars are wonderful and you always create beautiful vignettes.
hope you have a great week!

    White Spray Paint

  2. I love your jars and the new arrangement! That Italian pot is so pretty! It rained here all day and is very chilly too:( I got things done around the house since I couldn't get out side. Have a great week!!

    1. We have had some of that bad weather too. Hopefully a week of sunshine ahead! Sheila

  3. l love the asymmetrical look and your Italian pottery arrangement is the perfect complement! Happy Monday!

  4. Hi Sheila! Oh, your arrangement on your table with the ginger jar is so pretty! Don't turn your back, you may find some missing jars! :) I love those. Your arrangement is so lovely too! Hope you have a nice week!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  5. Beautiful Ginger jars. I love them paired with green. Look at those roses! Gorgeous. Our flowers are still in hiding.

  6. Lovely vignette and you hat is darling. Happy Monday and just to let you know, I received the cook book. Thanks again.

    1. Thank you Linda! Have fun with the cookbook! Derby is this weekend so you may want to try something. Sheila

  7. Your mama cave is looking good, lady!! And I adore that hat.....if only I could get away wit wearing it daily! :)

  8. Ginger jars are on a par with boxwood balls, artichokes, pears and flowers; necessary for centerpieces and tablescapes. Love the hat! Glad you are taking the trees out. You don't want to have a foundation or basement wall problem. Too bad landscapers aren't home inspectors and foundation guys. They would know better than place trees or any large shrubs up against the house.

  9. What cute jars!! How neat!!

Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!

  10. I love your beautiful home and thanks for sharing your decorating ideas with us at Cooking and Crafting with J & J. Enjoy the week. Julie xo

  11. Everything you do in your home is beautiful, Sheila. You just have the touch!

    Happy Thoughts of Home. :)
