I have been working on a patriotic table setting for this memorial weekend.
I do not normally have a collection of red, white, and blue since I do not have those colors in my house…but I started thinking a little harder and remembered that I have red placemats for Christmas, white everyday plates, blue and white Spode plates, and navy napkins that go with my formal china.
OK, I can do this. I started playing house to see what the best combination of my bits and pieces would be. I decided on the Spode plates. Take a look at how I will set the table for our family lunch.
Normally for outside use I would use a melamine plate or a toss away plate, but this time I thought I would go with a china plate. The glass looks like crystal, but it is actually a heavyweight plastic cup. (found them at Wal Mart)
I have been collecting silver looking serveware for several years. Actually it is polished aluminum that can go from freezer to oven. This particular piece is sized so that you can put a hot Pyrex into it…and place on the table. I have also put this piece in the freezer for a while and then served sandwiches in it. I have trays, bowls, etc.
My silver usually just stays in the cabinet…as this “alternative metal” is so easy to use…and it never needs polishing.
I will show you some other pieces another time. Some are Wilton, some are Lenox, and some are Beatrix Ball. If you have not yet discovered this type of metal….look around on the internet. There are beautiful pieces.
