A Red, White, and Blue Table Setting

I have been working on a patriotic table setting for this memorial weekend.

I do not normally have a collection of red, white, and blue since I do not have those colors in my house…but I started thinking a little harder and remembered that I have red placemats for Christmas, white everyday plates, blue and white Spode plates, and navy napkins that go with my formal china.

OK, I can do this. I started playing house to see what the best combination of my bits and pieces would be. I decided on the Spode plates. Take a look at how I will set the table for our family lunch.

Normally for outside use I would use a melamine plate or a toss away plate, but this time I thought I would go with a china plate. The glass looks like crystal, but it is actually a heavyweight plastic cup. (found them at Wal Mart)

I have been collecting silver looking serveware for several years. Actually it is polished aluminum that can go from freezer to oven. This particular piece is sized so that you can put a hot Pyrex into it…and place on the table. I have also put this piece in the freezer for a while and then served sandwiches in it. I have trays, bowls, etc.

My silver usually just stays in the cabinet…as this “alternative metal” is so easy to use…and it never needs polishing.

I will show you some other pieces another time. Some are Wilton, some are Lenox, and some are Beatrix Ball. If you have not yet discovered this type of metal….look around on the internet. There are beautiful pieces.

Please let me know what you are doing to decorate for your memorial weekend festivities.
Thanks so much for visiting me today!

Hello, I'm Sheila and my house is a giant art project! I enjoy creating an environment where my family can feel safe, secure, and loved. We are empty nesters learning to slow down and enjoy life.

  1. Perfect Sheila. Using what you have works. The placemats are a great addition. Love the plates!
Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend.

  2. Pretty and festive! Love the blue transfer ware. I have lots of antique silver that I rarely use except during the holidays....I like the idea of having pieces that look silver but don't require all the polishing. Lots of fun events tomorrow in the Louisville area!

    1. So very true about silver! We lived in Lville years ago, and I still miss it. Sheila

  3. I too am a fan of polished metal! Such a great discovery! Beautiful tablescape. I am having plate envy right now. Enjoy your family time.

    1. Thank you Sherry. We had a our bunch of kids with spouse and special friends here plus my parents. It was a fun I am resting from all of the food and fun....and cleaning too. Ha!

  4. So pretty, Sheila, simple and elegant!

    1. Thanks. Simple seems to be my signature style...just shower of Shaker. Hahaha. I see beautiful tables and then when it comes to my own, I still lean on the side of simple, or less is more. Maybe I will learn to do more elaborate table settings one of these days. 😊😊

  5. Everything is so pretty that I pinned to Table Settings! Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo

    1. Thank you Donna! I hope you had a nice memorial weekend too!

  6. Your table looks lovely, Sheila! I hope that you are enjoying your weekend!

    1. Thank you Katie! Same to you...and loved the gorgeous pics of window boxes in Boston! I want some!

  7. Your table setting is beautiful! I love how you incorporated your blue and white pieces. We just have red and white for our patriotic holidays so it's not as pretty as red white and blue. Love the polished metal. Very smart!

    1. Thank you Jen. Maybe you could slip in a hint of blue and no one would mind. 😊

  8. Beautiful job Sheila! That's wonderful how you had the red placemats- what a great start. The blue Spode dinnerware is just the right color. I always wanted to buy that aluminum serve ware but never had a place to store it. I didn't know about freezing it for cold things- what a great idea!

    1. Oh is a problem! Ha ha. I bought the solid red placemats...then realized how many nolidays use red. Win win. :-)

  9. Beautiful! I love our patriotic colors, and I also like to use our Spode Blue Room plates for patriotic holidays.
Hope you enjoyed a beautiful Memorial Day!

  10. Beautiful, festive and patriotic! Hope you had an enjoyable Memorial Day, Sheila. I love your outdoor spaces...Christine

  11. Thank you for continuing to share your awesome content st #OverTheMoon!

  12. Look at how pretty your table is! I would love to sit there and drink my morning coffee!

  13. Thank you for sharing at #ThursdayFavoriteThings! Pinned and tweeted.

  14. such a pretty table. Doesn't it feel so much more special when you use real china when dining out of doors? The aluminum pieces are great for entertaining and certainly dress up your table, don't they? You look like you are all set for a patriotic summer with this pretty table! Thanks for being such a dedicated attendee at the Celebrate Your Story! link party!

  15. Love our Red, White and Blue! Your decor makes me smile! So patriotic!

  16. Your table setting is just so pretty and festive and would be perfect now for the 4th of July! :)

  17. Absolutely so pretty, festive and just look at this beautiful blue transfer ware! I have an eclectic collection of antique silver that I use and display quite often.....I like the idea of having pieces that look silver but don't need to be polished, although a little tarnish it kinda cool too:)
Love seeing this Patriotism my friend:)
Thank you for sharing this beauty of a post with us at TOHOT!

  18. pretty! :) Love this!

I’d love for you to share it with my Recipe and Crafts Facebook Group:

  19. I really like the placemats and think mixing the china in was a nice touch. Thanks for sharing on #WonderfulWednesday blog hop.

  20. Your table is so pretty! Love it! Thank you for sharing. You are one of the features at the Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. Here is the link to this week's party. Have a happy week ahead. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  21. Sheila, I like the simplicity and class of this table. I like using Wilton and Marisposa too, but have not had any Beatrix Ball. Also, Frontgate makes some caterer-style stainless serving pieces with thermocore that I received as a gift and love. Those plastic glasses from WM are great! I hope you're feeling better this week.
