A Little Weekend Mischief

I had no special plans on Saturday morning.

But then things changed.

I found a little mischief, or the mischief found me. ha!

If you recall from a couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I wanted to refresh, or redesign, or tweak our great room. Hubby and I talked about doing this or that but it was just "talk." :-)

This past Saturday I began moving and rearranging some things. It was time to go into action. This was not planned...I just started moving furniture, rolling up rugs, and causing general mayhem in the great room while still in my PJs.

When you rearrange a room it is kind of like playing chess, or checkers. One change necessitates another change, whether you are moving a centerpiece or a piece of furniture.

Here is one of the changes that I made on Saturday.

I have a crooked hall and I am always looking for some way to improve its appearance. There are no very little light. (I lightened the pics some to help.)

While I was moving the great room furniture on Saturday morning I decided to move my black painted chest to see if it would work in my crooked hall.

At 18 inches deep it takes some of the walking space, but I think it will be fine.

The next step was to decorate the top of the chest. Vignette time!!!  I love to decorate tabletops.

I began with one of my baskets into which I put some pieces of filler and greenery. It is hard to tell from the picture, but the honey gold of the basket looks quite nice in contrast to the black.

The next option was a brass bowl with pears. While the colors were nice, the scale of the bowl was not right to my eye.

I tried this larger arrangement, and the scale is much better. The chest is 4 feet long/wide.

The lamps were on the the table that was there before. And the round mirror was already in the same place too. I did not even have to raise or lower the mirror. Yay! No more nail holes!

Here is a closer look at the painted detail. I picked up this chest in Lexington several years ago and I continue to love it. I store placemats, table runners, and pretty tea towels in it.

I love the brass ring pulls too. Look at the detail.

The lamps are very curvy and I think work well with the very heavy square chest.

Still playing with the vignette arrangement ...because I just love to play with accessories, etc.

I brought the black and white spotted pups to my chest in the crooked hall.

I do believe they add just the right touch!

I spent the reminder of Saturday morning moving other furniture in the great room, but moved all of it back to its starting place, except for a pine blockfront chest that we brought from a bedroom.

Hubby always likes to ask me where I want to put this or that. I cannot honestly say where something will go (and look good) until I try it. Trial and error you know.

What kind of mischief did you get into this weekend?

Thanks for visiting!
