Fall Decorating in the Parlor

Fall is such a fun time to decorate.

We can get by with more vibrant colors in our homes...based on fall foliage colors.

I mean, what other time of the year can we use bright orange inside of our houses.
(for most of us)

For me it all started with these little pumpkins.

Then one thing led to another!

You know how that goes.

I put my little pumpkins in lanterns.

And they rested on the dining room table for a bit.

Then one day I was dusting and moving things here and there.

Things were all over the place!

My lanterns and crows  ravens landed on this chest in the dining room...
until I had another idea.
I looked to the parlor for this idea.

I headed to the parlor/mama cave to "fall-ify" it a bit. Normally I relax in the parlor, but this time I am "relaxing" the parlor. I am going to try adding more casual elements to accomplish this.

I dusted everything and then began to work on my old (1975) bultler's tray table. It's my very first piece of good furniture (EA) and the memory keeps me from letting it go, even though the handles are sagging. ha.

I decided to "relax" the parlor a little by bringing in rustic lanterns, fun pumpkins, and the "old black ravens."

This room usually plays host to my pretty things. Special things.

Here's to trying something new this fall!

Follow along as I give this a try.
(I know that I can switch it back to "pretty" any time. ha.)

I tweaked the placement of things.

I scooted the lanterns, ravens, and pot of greenery until I had them just the way I wanted them.

Visually oriented people move things 1/4 of an inch to make  a vignette "just right."
I am one of those. ha.

Then I added three little pumpkins.

I took pics from several angles.

I wanted things to look "just right"  for you.

The lanterns are very rustic, as is the clay pot of boxwood. But I think they will work for this fall season. They bring a bit of interest to the otherwise formal room.

It's just for fun after all. ha.

Halloween is a time when kids and grownups can both have a little fun.

I mean pumpkins, candy, decorations, parties, and costumes are fun for everyone. Halloween is not just a kid's fun time anymore.

Some folks go "dark" but I think the "lighter" side of Halloween is fine, and even fun.

If one looks at the French, and maybe European, tradition of all saints day, the "all hallows eve" (i.e. Halloween) was to frighten away any evil spirits before all saints day.

I put the pups on the tilt top table so that they could keep an eye on the ravens that invaded their space. ha.

I added a basket for texture and a pillow and throw for comfort.

I happened to have a burnt orange throw to repeat the color of the pumpkins on the coffee table, so that the colors repeat.

I created a graphic to show the things I added to the parlor. Normally I think of these things as being too rustic to go with the fine woods, etc. But, for a fall touch I believe that I can get away with the extra texture that rustic items have. I will probably dress things up again for Christmas, but for some fall fun...I'm game.

I brought in lots of texture with the basket and nubby throw. The old bottle and pot of boxwood also pull in a relaxed vibe. Now, I just need a cup of spiced tea and the throw wrapped around me. We are having cool mornings and evenings now!
