Kentucky's Handmade Hadley Pottery

Hadley Pottery is very special in Kentucky!
Ladies use it around the house, and on their Derby buffet table. They give it as a gift to a friend or neighbor. They order personalized plates and platters for weddings, births, and other special occasions.
There are many different patterns, as well as customized items.
Lucky for everyone...these days you can make a virtual visit to their shop if you do not live near enough to visit. They also have an email list to sign up for so that you do not miss their sales, etc http://hadleypottery.com

Hadley Pottery is a special Kentucky product. I remember being a young married grad student in louisville. I would see Hadley Pottery in shops around Louisville and wanted so much to collect pieces. But, alas, being young, married and both of us in grad school the budget just would not allow me to collect those special pieces of pottery.

Time passed, and I began teaching, which let me get those few special pieces. I had a cheese

plate with dome and desert size plates. Unfortunately those pieces were lost during a move a few years ago. I may need to take a road trip back to Louisville to see about replacements.

Mary Alice Hadley History

History of M.A. Hadley pottery

Hand-crafted Pottery Since 1940

Owing to the abundance of ancient clay deposits in the region, Louisville has been a center of pottery-making for generations. Out of this proud tradition, Mary Alice Hadley established one of Louisville’s most iconic and well-known potteries. The story begins in the early 1900’s. Mary Alice Hadley was born into a family of clay tile makers where her knowledge of working with clay first developed. Exhibiting an early interest in art and design, she ultimately became a widely recognized painter, winning
numerous awards and acclaim from New York to Los Angeles. source, http://hadleypottery.com/history.html
