August is Here!

It is August. Summer is slipping away.

Soon the school buses will run.
Soon the leaves will begin falling.
Soon we will be pulling out sweaters and kicking off our sandals.
Soon we will notice the smell of chimneys burning a log or two.

The older I get the more I like autumn.

I do not care for the ice and snow that sometimes
blankets Kentucky in the deep of winter... nor do I like the frigid temps...
but I love the gold and red displays of the tree topped hills and mountains in the fall before the freeze of winder descends upon us.

I love being able to wear a pair of khaki pants and cotton blouse, or cardigan sweater with pearls.  Yes, I am old school and somewhat southern. I wear pearls all of the time except for summer. And being older...I try to dress somewhat age appropriate.

But I will wear my blue jeans and loafers or Topsiders until the end.

Yes, I wear pearls with jeans and sweaters.
If I go to campus wearing jeans,
there is a very good likelihood that I will also be wearing pearls.
Not sure what my students think of that...
but my pearls have become somewhat of a signature for me. I also have pearl earrings of various designs that go with my string of pearls.

My husband gave me my first string of nice pearls for my birthday just after we married 41 years ago. I have a couple of other strings of pearls that I also wear, but as far as daily wear...I usually wear my birthday pearls. They are special.

This is the first floral arrangement for fall that I have displayed. It was at my mother's house taking up space in her basement...so I finally brought it to its new home. Little by little the summer flowers will disappear in order to be replaced by mums and pumpkins.

Thanks for visiting,
Sheila
